A fifth inning rally by Pinecrest in Tuesday’s home softball game against Hoke County was interrupted by a downpour.
Lindsay Parkin had just doubled home two runs, cutting a four-run Buck lead to 8-6 before play was suspended. The Southeastern Conference opener will be completed on April 29 at Hoke before the regularly scheduled game. Parkin will be on third base with none out when play resumes.
Parkin tripled in a run in the bottom of the first inning and rode home on a single by Channing Cooper, giving the Patriots a 2-0 lead. Two Patriot errors contributed to a five-run top of the second for the visitors.
Kaylin Phipps singled in a Patriot run in the bottom of the second, but Hoke added three more runs in the top of the third, making it 8-3. Lizzie Smith drove in the fourth Patriot run with a single in the bottom of the third.
Leading up to Parkin’s line drive over the centerfielder’s head in the fifth, Patriot pitcher Bobbie McDaniel bunted for a base hit and Olivia Cioccolanti followed with a single into left field.
The Patriots are scheduled to entertain Jordan Matthews in a 5 p.m. non-conference game on Wednesday
