The Lady Viking soccer team escaped Spring Lake with a 3-2 overtime victory against Overhills in a Cape Fear Valley Conference clash.

An assist from junior Jessie Wilson set up Madi Kramer for the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the first 10-minute overtime. Senior goalkeeper Cristina Morcom made two critical saves during the extra 20 minutes to help Union Pines preserve its lead, as the Vikings improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in CFVC play

Union Pines held a 2-0 edge at intermission over Overhills (3-2, 0-1 CFVC).

The homestanding Jaguars, who had outscored their previous three opponents by a combined total (15-1), were outplayed for a vast majority of the match. But Overhills mounted a late charge scoring two goals in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime.

Mercedes Bracamonte scored a goal deep in the box to get the Vikes on the board with 24:58 left in the first half. In the final minute of the frame, freshman Hannah Kiser found the back of the net on a one-timer setup by a cross from junior captain Carly Lively that made it a 2-0 margin at halftime.

Union Pines returns to league play Wednesday for its third straight road match against Gray’s Creek (3-2, 1-0) at 7 p.m. in Hope Mills

In Monday’s junior varsity match the Vikes picked up a 1-0 win against Overhills on a 22-yard goal by Madison Forrest to improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in CFVC play.
