Besides the Pine Forest rezoning discussion plan covered on today’s front page, two other hearings are scheduled during the Tuesday meeting of the Moore County Board of Commissioners.

One is on a Community Transportation Program application, the other on an amendment to the zoning map.

The board will be asked to adopt a resolution officially accepting $26 million in state revolving loan funding to upgrade and expand the wastewater treatment plant. The fund is operated by the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The Human Resources Department will make a presentation on service pay, longevity pay, performance evaluation score ranking, and the 401(k) contribution match survey.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the historic courthouse in Carthage.

COUNTY 101 — County 101, a free course on Moore County local government operations, kicks off a new session on Monday, April 4.

The seven-week course features classes on all aspects of local government. The course will also include tours of the jail, sheriff’s office and emergency medical services facilities.

Classes will be held Monday and Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at various departments. A graduation ceremony is held for those completing at least 10 of the 12 sessions.

PLAN — A joint Working Lands Protection Plan meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Agricultural Building, 707 Pinehurst Ave. in Carthage. The meeting is open to the public.

HAGAN — U.S. Sen. Kay R. Hagan is one of three co-leaders for a moderate Democrats group in the 112th Congress.

The North Carolina Democrat will share leadership duties with Sens. Tom Carper, of Delaware, and Mark Udall, of Colorado. They are honorary co-chairs of Third Way, a moderate Democratic policy group.

Their goal, according to a news release from Hagan’s office, is “to work with the Senate leadership, Senate Republicans and the administration to craft commonsense solutions to urgent national problems.”
