The ACC Barnstorming Tour — boasting players from UNC, Duke and N.C. State — is returning to Cameron for the third time since 2007.

Union Pines High School will be the first stop on the 33rd edition of the tour as nine ACC players invade Bob Ward Gymnasium on Wednesday, April 6, two days after the national championship game. Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler and Casey Peters from Duke, Justin Knox, Daniel Bolick and Van Hatchell from North Carolina and Enrico Kufuor, Javier Gonzalez and Tracy Smith from N.C. State make up the ACC All-Star roster.

The ACC team will take on a local all-star team. The roster has yet to be selected.

“Like everywhere in this state, this is a hotbed for ACC basketball,” U.P. athletic director Bobby Purvis said. “We’re all Duke fans, Carolina fans, State fans, Wake Forest fans, and any time we get to see those guys up close and in person, it’s obviously going to be of great interest to our community here and in the surrounding communities as well.

“We look forward to this. There’s a lot of anticipation, there’s already a lot of interest throughout our community. It’s going to be a great night. It’s going to be a lot of fun. To see the guys that you see on television in your own gym, it’s always a very exciting thing for everyone.”

The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. There will be slam dunk and three-point contests at halftime, and the players will be available for an autograph session after the game.

Union Pines last hosted the Barnstorming Tour in 2009 when Tyler Hansbrough headlined the event fresh off UNC’s national championship run. The game sold out well in advance. Fans lined up at the gym door two hours before tip-off.

U.P. hosted the event in 2007, too. The ACC team that year included UNC’s Rayshawn Terry and N.C. State’s Engin Atsur. Purvis recalled the Pack’s David Thompson visiting the school in the 1970s.

This year’s tour will also stop at Lincolnton High School, North Wilkes High School, Roanoke Rapids High School, Asheboro High School and Galax High School in Virginia.

Tickets for this year’s game will go on sale following the ACC Tournament, which wraps up this afternoon. They can be purchased at Union Pines, North Moore High School, The Barber Shop in Aberdeen and Chatlee Boat and Marine in Sanford.

General admission tickets are $10. There are a limited number of VIP tickets available for $50, which include a front row seat to the game and access to a postgame reception with the players.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House and Union Pines High School.

The tour is sponsored and promoted by The Sumner Group. Fans can follow it on Facebook at ACC Barnstorming Tour and on Twitter @ACCBarn storming.
