The Weymouth Music Committee announces that the annual Weymouth Young Musicians Festival will be held March 19 and 20.
A fourth division for advanced musicians has been added. Auditioners who have been finalists two out of the last three years in grades seven through 12 are eligible to participate in Advanced Division Four.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 19, and the finalists' concert will be held Sunday, March 20, at 3 p.m. Both events take place in the Great Room at Weymouth Center.
The festival is open to students from Moore County and the surrounding counties of Lee, Montgomery, Richmond, Scotland and Hoke. Students in grades four through 12 who are currently studying an instrument or voice are eligible to participate.
The festival was the vision of Rose Ehrhardt, a member of the Weymouth Music Committee during the early 1980s. The purpose of the festival is to provide opportunities for young musicians to perform for adjudicators who provide critiques of their skills and musical ability in a place known for encouraging the development and flourishing of the arts and humanities.
Sue Aceves, YMF chair, is being assisted by Shelly Johnson, Sondra Nelson and Elaine Sills.
