Concert Band Features Soloist

The Moore County Concert Band will present its second concert of the season Sunday, March 13, at 1:45 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Carolina Hotel.

The band will offer a diverse program drawn from a variety of musical venues and will present as its soloist for this concert Dr. Mark E. Britt, trombonist and chairman of the music department of Furman University, where he teaches low brass, music education and interdisciplinary courses.

He has been a featured soloist with the university's Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra.

Britt is principal trombonist for the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Henderson Symphony Orchestra and is a featured soloist for both organizations. A noted chamber musician, Britt is also a member of the Zephyr Brass Trio and performs frequently with the Greenville Symphony.

He is equally skilled in popular, jazz and classical music and is in demand as a freelance musician by a variety of musical organizations across the Southeast. Britt regularly appears as a soloist, chamber musician, clinician and conductor at national and international events and has appeared as a recitalist in Austria, Germany and Italy.

He is an adviser and coach to a variety of musical organizations and publishes articles for a number of national music journals. He has taught at Valdosta State, Columbia State and Appalachian State universities and holds academic degrees from Appalachian State University, Northwestern University and Florida State University. Britt will be playing the music of Gareth Wood and Sammy Nestico.

The concert is free. Future concerts are scheduled for May 29, July 4 and Nov. 13 at the Carolina Hotel.
