The Artists League of the Sandhills, located in Aberdeen, has a variety of new spring classes for the beginner to the more advanced student available at its art space in Aberdeen.

Classes meet on a variety of days and vary in length of time. The drawing media of pastel and colored pencil are offered as one-day classes with Betty Hendrix, an award-winning artist. Other drawing classes teach the use of perspective in still life and in landscape.

Upcoming classes include one for the beginning oil painter, the next step after Follow the Leader, with all supplies included, taught by Diane Kraudelt. Artist Yvonne Sovereign teaches how to structure an oil painting with animals, designed for the intermediate to advanced painter. Other oil, acrylic and watercolor classes are available. Nanette Zeller offers a class on alternate methods for creating images on papers and canvas.

The workshop scheduled for May, using oil and pastel, "Painting the Landscape Using Photographic References," will be taught by Kevin Beck. The Artists League is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the visual arts to the community through education. It is located at 129 Exchange St., Aberdeen, and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Artists League facility contains several working artists' studios and the Exchange Street Gallery, which features a different monthly exhibit. The gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
