The O’Neal varsity girls’ soccer team battled last season’s state tournament runner-up Cary Christian to a hard-fought 0-0 tie Wednesday.

The Lady Falcons were able to play an organized, high pressure defensive system against a team returning two all-state players from a year ago, according to coach Ted Hassenfelt.

The second half saw both teams get a few quality scoring chances, highlighted by a shot on goal by Mary Dixon on a pass from Abbey Dahl that resulted in a game-saving stop by the Cary Christian goalkeeper.

The Lady Falcons will travel to Northwood Temple Academy today.
