Articles of Faith: Couple Honored at Cypress Presbyterian

J.D. and Wilma Johnson, of Vass, were recently honored by Cypress Presbyterian Church for having served the Cypress Sunday School nursery for 40 years.
A surprise luncheon was given following the 11 a.m. worship service on May 15. In attendance were many of their former students, now adults with their own children, and family members of the Johnsons'. The celebration included the reading of a proclamation citing the many ways they have served Cypress Church and the positive influence they have had on the children of Cypress.
A book capturing the many years of their service was also presented to them.
Yard and Bake Sale
Kingdom Connections Church will be hosting a yard and bake sale Saturday, July 9, beginning at 7 a.m. There will be lots of items as well as some good food for small donations.

Marriage Seminar
"Creating Oneness in Marriage" will be hosted by Emmanuel Baptist Church Friday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner will be served Friday night before the class, and light refreshments will be served on Saturday. The guest speakers will be Butch and Terry Butcher, from Georgia.
"A head count is needed for food preparations and child care providers," says a spokesman.

The widows/widowers/singles ministry of Beaver Creek Baptist Church will hold a time of fellowship and food at the Feed Mill Restaurant in Broadway on Friday, July 1, at 11:30 a.m.
The church will hold Independence Sunday, July 3, immediately after the 11 a.m. service.
" Come casual and with your swimsuit as we enjoy a day of family fun and fellowship," says a spokesman. "There will be free food and activities throughout the day."

Summer Revival
Jesus Is King of Deliverance Ministries will be having a summer revival beginning Wednesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Bishop Alfred Williams, from Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Patriotic Presentation
The Rev. Michael J. Garber, minister emeritus of the Community Congregational Church, of Southern Pines, will deliver a patriotic Independence Day presentation "I Am the Flag of This Great Nation," at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, July 3.
During his 26-year ministry at the Community Congregational Church, it became a traditional part of the church's special July Fourth observance each year. Although the basic theme of Garber's presentation remains unchanged, a few milestones in American history have been added over the years.
Garber served as senior pastor of the Community Congregational Church from 1976-2002. A graduate of Eden Theological Seminary, he began his ministry at the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield, N.Y., where he served for 10 years prior to coming to Southern Pines.
"All are welcome to attend worship service and celebrate the 236th anniversary of the birth of our nation," says a spokesman.

West End UMC
Bread of Life Ministry at West End United Methodist Church meets every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This ministry is for seniors (widows, widowers, and the elderly). It is a time of fellowship and devotion with a home cooked meal provided at a charge of $5 per person.

Ministries
Angel Food Ministries -provides food assistance to families across America. Angel Food ministries has no qualifiers and participation is open to anyone and everyone.
It is a nonprofit, nondenominational food cooperative committed to providing food assistance to families across the United States. Bible Study
Community Bible Study, an international study with classes held throughout the United States and more than 120 other countries, is now taking enrollments for the 2011-12 season in the Sandhills for women, which will begin Sept. 6
Nondenominational -classes meet each Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, U.S. 1, in Southern Pines. Members will be studying I and II Peter, Philippians, Colossians and I John.
Women meet together for a short opening program, then proceed into small groups, where answers to printed lessons are discussed, and end the morning with a lecture presentation.
Classes with crafts and Bible lessons are available for children from preschool age. Additionally, classes are offered for home-schooled children, and there is a -nursery for infants.
A registration fee covers the cost of materials and scholarships are available for those who cannot afford the fee.

Reading Room
In addition to public talks on Christian Science as part of its outreach, the Christian Science Church maintains a reading room where visitors may quietly meditate, pray, study the Bible and read periodicals published by the Christian Science Publishing Society, including the Pulitzer-Prize winning Christian Science Monitor.
Visitors are invited to come in to the Christian Science Reading Room at 173 NE Broad St. in Southern Pines weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. to read, borrow or purchase books, CDs and other literature which can forward our progress.

Town Talk
"Town Talk" airs at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. every day on Time Warner Cable 3 of Southern Pines.
The show is back to its 30-minute format and will -feature local inspirational performances, faith-based programs, and individuals with triumphant stories of overcoming hardships. The host is Rose Highland-Sharpe.

Martha's Place is in the fellowship hall of Page Memorial United Methodist Church of Aberdeen.
Healing Service
A healing service is held the second Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. at The Village Chapel, Pinehurst.
The service includes the -reading of God's Word, -confession, prayer, the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the anointment with oil.
Health Ministry
Sandhills Health Ministry -meetings are held at 9 a.m. on the third Monday of the month, at the Pinehurst United Methodist Church, Airport Road, Pinehurst.
