Taylortown resident Alice Thompson has many fond memories of attending school and teaching at Academy Heights.

As the year-round elementary school closed at the end of the 2010-2011 year, Thompson recalls the work she put into keeping the school open many years ago and its lasting legacy in the community.

The school opened in the 1930s to serve the residents of Taylortown.

In 1996, the school began hosting Moore County's first year-round program.

The school's closure was one of several severe budget cuts made by the Moore County Board of Education to accommodate a state funding shortfall for the 2011-2012 year.
