Cummings-Bowness Wedding
Caitlin Amelia Bowness and Mark Simeon Cummings, both of Chapel Hill, were married last spring at the Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines. The Rev. Grady J. Perryman officiated at the ceremony.
The reception, hosted by the bride's parents, was held at the Country Club of North Carolina.
The bride is the daughter of Lynn Marsden Bowness, of Southern Pines, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alexander Bowness, of Pinehurst, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Hubert Maxton Craig Jr., of Stanley. The bride attended Wake Forest University and works at The O'Neal School as a history teacher and coach.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robin Gary Cummings, of Pinehurst, and the grandson of Melba Ray Godwin, of Maxton, and the Rev. and Mrs. Simeon Foster Cummings, of Pembroke. The groom attended University of North Carolina-Pembroke and is currently in his fourth year of dental school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The bride was escorted by her father, Robert Alexander Bowness. She wore an asymmetrically side-draped gown made of ivory silk shantung with a chapel-length train. The gown was accented with a dramatic gold brooch of a flowing floral and leaf motif made from pearls and Swarovski crystals. She also wore a cathedral-length veil featuring ivory and gold hand embroidery, beadwork and crystals. She carried a bouquet of white roses and purple lisianthus.
Mollie Paige Bowness, sister of the bride, of New York, was the maid of honor. Constance Flemming Wright, sister of the bride, of Richmond, Va., Dr. Amy Cummings Davidian, sister of the groom, of Chapel Hill, Turner Harte Floyd, of Brooklyn, Emily Vanhoy Walker, of Saxapahaw, and Emma Mary Doughan, of New York, were bridesmaids. They wore dresses with a sweetheart neckline and fitted bodice with a high natural waist. They were made of black satin-faced silk shantung and each with a pewter sash at the waist. They carried bouquets of white calla lilies.
Dr. Robin Gary Cummings, father of the groom, of Pinehurst, was the best man. James Andrew Killpack, brother of the bride, of Portland, Ore., Dr. Edward William Davidian, brother-in-law of the groom, of Chapel Hill, David Gary Cummings, brother of the groom, of Chapel Hill, Adam Jeremiah Cummings, brother of the groom, of Pinehurst, Byron Daniel Lowry, cousin of the groom, of Lumberton, and James Andrew Sugg, of Chapel Hill, were groomsmen.
Katherine Jane Rhodes, cousin of the bride, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Annabelle June Rhodes, cousin of the bride, of Arden, were flower girls.
Wedding music was provided by organist Michael S. Howe and soloist Rev. Benford G. Edwards.
Jennifer Berk and Margaret Smith, both of Pinehurst, directed the wedding.
Following a wedding trip to Aruba, the couple reside in Chapel Hill.

A couples' shower was hosted by Mrs. Howard C. Wilkinson, Tyler Horney, Holly Floyd and Turner Floyd in Pinehurst.
A bridal shower was hosted by Cecy Morcom and Jenny Hassenfelt at The O'Neal School.
A bridesmaids' luncheon was hosted by mothers of the bride, Lynn Bowness and Susan Bowness, and aunts of the bride, Cindy Cordell, Leslie Culberson and Jane Rhodes at Chef Warrens.
The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at Forest Creek Golf Club.
A wedding day brunch was hosted by friends of the bride and the groom's family at the home of Walker and Katie Morris.
A bridal shower was hosted by bridesmaids at Litchfield, S.C.
