A preliminary concept plan for a 880-acre mixed use development to be located between Aberdeen and Pinebluff got a nod of approval Thursday night.
The Aberdeen Planning Board and board of commissioners on Thursday heard a brief, preliminary concept plan for Loblolly Plantation, a development that could feature two 18-hole golf courses, a golf academy, an Olympic-sized indoor swimming pool, a spa and fitness/wellness center, tennis courts, a performing arts center as well as residential and commercial development.
“Initially I like the idea,” said mayor Betsy Mofield.
"If it were to become a reality, it would be a great addition to Aberdeen,” said Commissioner Robbie Farrell.
Representatives from Hobbs Upchurch & Associates, on behalf of an Atlanta-based developer, presented the proposal to both boards during the meeting.
A similar presentation will be made on June 28 at a Pinebluff Town Council meeting.
An audience of about 50 people attended the meeting that was held at the Aberdeen Recreation Station.

If developers liked to wrestle, we would be overrun with wrestling mats.
Vanity project, done for the development fees.

The disneyland of golf...olympic pool, performing arts, shopping and commercial areas...and all in one fantasy land like some Florida developements. An international destination? Well, that isn't likely. Pinehurst will always be "the" international golf destination for NC.
