The 11th annual summer dog wash to raise funds to care for animals housed at Solutions for Animals will be held this Saturday.

It takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Five Points Pet Resort between Aberdeen and Raeford off N.C. 211, which is a co-sponsor. The Pet Resort is at 1405 Montrose Road, which is just off the highway at the Carolina Horse Park sign, where the Stoneybrook Steeplechase is held each spring.

The event is a fun day for the whole family and is the main fundraiser each year to feed, shelter and provide medical care to homeless animals at Solutions for Animals (SFA), a nonprofit, no-kill shelter run at Cindy Bristow's residence in western Hoke County just south of Aberdeen.

SFA has no paid personnel, so that all the money raised goes directly to care for the animals until they are adopted.

The cost for having pets bathed by volunteers is still $5. For another $5, pets can receive nail trims from professional groomer Elaine Reaves. Folks can also bathe their pets themselves, with all of the supplies provided on-site.

In addition, a veterinarian from Whispering Pines Animal Hospital will be present to administer rabies vaccinations at affordable prices. Discounted flea and tick preventatives will also be available.

Cold Stone Creamery, of Aberdeen, will provide ice cream treats. Sound Sensations, a mobile disc jockey service from Pinehurst, will provide music.

Buffalo Springs Baptist Church, of Raeford, will provide lunch. Attendees can choose from sausage dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers and barbecue, along with vegetarian items. Aberdeen Coca-Cola is donating drinks for the 11th year. SFA is donating some beverages, and Five Points is donating lemonade.

Bristow said she is still looking for volunteers. She said she hopes to offer the ever-popular SFA Dog Police, who will arrest animals charged with being too cute. Several volunteers are needed to photograph and print pictures of the culprits after they are bonded out of doggie jail.

Face-painting and pony rides will also be available. Volunteers are also needed for those activities.

Bristow said she needs a minimum of 60 volunteers. Anyone interested in helping is asked to call her at (910) 875-7244.
