The Artists League of the Sandhills is offering several new art classes for both beginning and advanced students during July and August.

These classes are available to art students 16 years old or older and are held in classrooms in the historic railroad building in Aberdeen.

A beginning drawing class is offered in August by Sandra Kinunnen. A water-based oil and acrylic class offered in July with Andrea Schmidt will allow the students to complete two paintings.

Four very different and separate watercolor classes are offered this summer with instructors Ann Campbell, June Rollins, Emma Skurnick and Betty Hendrix. All four of these artists have a unique approach to water media work.

The League offers a July collage class using fibers and textiles with Nanette Zeller and an August printmaking class with Sandy Stratil. Karen Walker will offer an alcohol inks class in August.

The classes vary from three to six hours in length and offer a unique learning experience for all registrants. Class size and continued availability are limited, so early registration is highly recommended. In some of the classes the supplies are included in the registration cost.

The Artists League of the Sandhills is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to promote interest in the visual arts by providing art education and a friendly environment in which to work, exhibit and sell members' artworks. It is located in historic downtown Aberdeen at 129 Exchange St. in the old Aberdeen Rockfish Railroad storage terminal. Visit the website at www.artistleague. org.

Regular gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
