Whispers, the women's club of Whispering Pines, announced the new officers for the 2011-2012 year at the final luncheon of this past club year. The gavel has been passed from co-presidents Sandy Armstrong and Sue Jaehne to Sharon Mathias, who will be president. The treasurer will be Sharyne Rogers, the recording secretary will be Hope Dugenske, and Mary Steffen will be corresponding secretary.
Another highlight of the May 11 luncheon was the presentation of the Pine Cone Award to Marilyn Navarro. Navarro has volunteered for many years. Those organizations benefiting from her help are: the Whispering Pines Garden Club, Ninettes, Pinettes, Red Hatters, and most of all, Whispers, where her involvement includes the constitution and bylaws committee, the W.P. phone directory, the nominating committee and serving as a past co-president.
This was a successful year for Whispers under the guidance of co-presidents Sandy Armstrong and Sue Jaehne. The club's year-end distribution to local charities and deserving organizations amounted to $9,417. These organizations included: Sandhills/Moore Coalition For Human Care, Moore Free Care Clinic, Lifeline FirstHealth Response, Duncan Girls Camp, Sandhills Community College, Bethany House, Friend to Friend and Department of Aging.
Members are beginning work on the luncheon programs and other fundraising projects for the coming year. The first luncheon meeting will be the annual fashion show on Sept. 14.
