The Sunrise Theater's SunFlix series presents the Golden Globe and Oscar winner of the 2011 Best Foreign Language film, "In a Better World," as its second feature film of June.

This Danish language drama centers around a doctor who works in an African war zone, lives in Denmark, and is contending with a crumbling marriage and a troubled son. The cast includes Mikael Persbrandt, Trine Dyrholm and Ulrich Thomsen, and the film is directed by Susanne Bier.

"In a Better World" will be shown Thursday, June 9, through Monday, June 13, with shows weekdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. This film is rated R and runs for 1 hour and 50 minutes.

The following plot summary appeared on the International Movie Database: "Anton is a doctor who commutes between his home in an idyllic town in Denmark, and his work at an African refugee camp. In these two very different worlds, he and his family are faced with conflicts that lead them to difficult choices between revenge and forgiveness. Anton and his wife, Marianne, who have two young sons, are separated and struggling with the possibility of divorce. Their older son, 10-year-old Elias, is being bullied at school, until he is defended by Christian, a new boy who has just moved from London with his father, Claus. Christian's mother recently lost her battle with cancer, and Christian is greatly troubled by her death.

"Elias and Christian quickly form a strong bond, but when Christian involves Elias in a dangerous act of revenge with potentially tragic consequences, their friendship is tested and lives are put in danger. Ultimately, it is their parents who are left to help them come to terms with the complexity of human emotions, pain and empathy."

The historical Sunrise Theater is located at 250 NW Broad St. in Southern Pines. Tickets for the all shows are $7 for adults. Refreshments, including beer and wine, are available. All Sunrise Theater movies are commercial free.
