High school and college students have an opportunity to apply for an internship with Moore County this summer.

This is the second year that the county has sponsored the program in which students learn firsthand about the ins and outs of local government. Interns will be placed with various departments.

The registration deadline is June 17, according to Eli Arroyo-Allen, county public information officer, and Linda Gore, 4-H agent.

Once again, the internship program is being co-sponsored by the county public information office and the Cooperative Extension Service's 4-H program.

Two sessions are planned, July 25-29 and Aug. 1-5, with a service project to be carried out the week of Aug. 12-18 during the Little League World Series at Hillcrest Park. Orientation will be held July 21 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Agriculture Center in Carthage. There is a $25 fee.

Arroyo-Allen says participants will gain work experience, develop leadership skills, learn how local government works and meet local leaders and staff.

Interested students may pick up additional information and application forms on the county website at www.moorecountync.gov or by calling Linda Gore, 4-H agent, at (910) 947-3188 or Arroyo-Allen at (910) 947-6363.
