Teen Charged in Laptop Thefts

A Sanford teenager is facing numerous charges in connection with several laptop thefts at Camp Durant in Carthage.
On July 28, Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested William Thomas Mowery, 17, and charged him with breaking and entering, larceny after a breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
Mowery was released to the custody of his parents, with his first appearance in District Court scheduled for Aug. 11.
The Sheriff’s Office received three different theft reports from individuals while at Camp Durant. The thefts were reported over three days in early July.
Christopher Caswell, of Cary, reported the theft of his son’s laptop July 10. The following day, Joseph Spratley, of Raleigh, reported the theft of his laptop and a video game console. Both happened at the break room of the dining hall.
On July 12, Kimberly Foytlin, of Durham, reported a break-in and larceny of a laptop from her cabin.
