A West End man died Friday night when he crashed his motorcycle on Morganton Road near Southern Pines, according to the highway patrol.

Danny Lee Puckett, 61, was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson northwest on Morganton Road when he ran up on a raised median and hit a road sign, said 1st Sgt. T.D. Simmons of the state highway patrol.

Puckett was thrown from vehicle as it overturned and crossed both lanes of traffic before stopping near a culvert, Simmons said.

Puckett, an avid motorcyclist and member of the Sandhills Harley Owners Group, was pronounced dead at the scene, Simmons said.

Puckett was not exceeding the 35 mph speed limit. Alcohol was not a factor, Simmons said.

The accident is still under investigation.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines.

A visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
