PC Golf Parent/Athlete Meeting

A parent/athlete meeting for rising ninth through 12th graders interested in being members of the Pinecrest girls’ golf team this fall will be held on Tuesday, July 26, at the Donald Ross Grill at the Pinehurst Resort.

Practices are scheduled to begin on August 1.

Anyone who cannot attend the meeting but is interested, should call Jennifer Kearney at (910) 215-6361.

Optimist Tackle Football Deadline Extended

The Sandhills Optimist Club is offering their 2011 tackle football program again this year.

Registration has been extended until July 29.

The Optimist tackle program’s mission is to enable children to benefit from playing tackle football in a safe and structured environment and to teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that children will use throughout their lives.

Everyone participates under mandatory rules of play and “Safety is First.” Practices are held during the week with games on Saturday.

Participants in the 8 – 10-year-old league must be 8 years old as of July 31 and cannot have turned 11 years old before August 31.

Participants in the 10 – 12-year-old league must be 10 years old as of July 31 and cannot have turned 13 years old before August 31.

Ten-year-olds over 110 pounds will be required to play in the 10-12 year old league.

There is no maximum to participate, but those over the weight will be restricted to the line of scrimmage. The fee is $100 but no child will be excluded due to financial hardship.

Registration fees include secondary insurance and use of helmets, shoulder pads, game jersey, practice jersey, pants and pads as well as other football equipment as necessary.

Forms may be mailed to the address on the form or dropped off at the administration office at Southern Pines First Baptist Church (Attn: Brian Moore).

Coaches are also being sought for the season. Please note on the registration form if you are willing to assist with coaching.
