Regarding Pat Griffin’s letter “System is Broken” (July 13), I wonder how many of us would be comfortable living on the Mexican border. Quoting from Leviticus does not help those in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and California. I realize that there are illegals who are living here and contributing to our well-being. But there are far too many illegals who want to harm us in any way they can. These are the ones who are killing innocent people, filling our prisons (if we catch them), bankrupting our hospitals and bringing in drugs to get our youth hooked. These are evil illegals and have absolutely no right to be here.
We have a president who is suing the Arizona governor for her bill on illegals. It happens to be almost identical to the U.S. law that Obama is supposed to be supporting! Where is this country going?

Fear!!! Be very afraid. Everything is out to get you. Elect a Republican and all this will go away. The preceding message was brought to you by Emily. Oh, by the way Emily, you got one thing in your letter backwards. The drug trade works on the supply and demand principles of commerce. Any drugs being brought into this country are to supply a DEMAND for them. The drugs are here because of that, not because the drug cartels are trying to introduce a new product to market.

I wonder how Emily will feel when the "illegals" take their $1 trillion+ a year of economic benefit with them.

Illegals may have some econimic benefit, but that also have economic cost; not paying taxes, kids in our schools, driving around with no insurance, flooding our prisons, taking away American jobs and many other costs. So it goes both ways jim. I bet the cost out weighs the benefit.

Your bet would lose.

Watching the news, I think it could be very uncomfortable living along the Mexican / US border. So many examples can be cited, but this sign and the signs location 80 miles North of the border says plenty....Mike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzDlN7...

Same way it was uncomfortable living in New York City at the turn of the century with all those awful Irish, Germans, and Catholics streaming in, eh?

If you cannot understand the difference between these distinct groups of people, one group doing things legally and being proud to be in America as contributors (Those immigrating legally from Mexico included) versus those cited above; you can shout your listenup for the rest of your life and nobody will care what you say...Mike

Hey, if we were not so intent on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan or the border between Iran and Iraq, we could afford to work on Jan's border. Bring the military back from all the countries it currently occupies, take them off the Pentagon payroll and make them border patrol agents earning border patrol agent wages and border patrol agent benefits. We'll need a bunch of them, since Arizona is not our only border. In addition to Arizona, we'll need border patrol agents shoulder to shoulder across every mile of border (that does not border any other state) in New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Washington, Oregon and California. Of course, we will also require border patrol agents to be located at every airport serviced by international flights. Only when this is accomplished will our borders be secure.

Maybe we should build a moat instead.
buddysmith 1 year, 10 months ago
we could mine the area, if the illegals know the mines are there they would be less likel;y to try and cross!

If you build a moat along the Gulf, Atlantic, Pacific and Great Lakes borders, it would just keep filling up with water!!.

freedomisdaonlyway: I think you may have missed the point of my reply to you. I was the one being the smart a@#. There was no need for you to apologize. I was trying to add a little humor to the proceedings but I forgot that there are some unable to see humor.

JER...I get the distinct impression that you think the U.S. is responsible for all this. Since you don't think a problem exists maybe you can take vacation in New Mexico, or Arizona, or even Texas and see for yourself. Not everyone coming across the border is a "happy Jose" looking for a job doing work that apparently can only be done by illegal Mexicans and not wanted by out of work Americans. Homeland Security will be glad to tell you to stay away from the border, don't pick up hitchhikers, don't take back roads, and don't even think about going into Mexico. At least that's what they told a bunch of Moore County First Responders last year! I have no problem with those wanting to come here legally to visit or try to become citizens but the last two administrations have not wanted any border security to speak of and, as a result, we know that there are several million persons from "countries of interest" running around the U.S. probably waiting for an opportunity to stir up hate and dissension. We know they are here, we know they have access to weapons and explosives, we apparently don't know why they haven't started yet. Check it out and stop blaming America...we are still the greatest nation on the face of this earth, despite what the current administration is trying to do.

"I get the distinct impression that you think the U.S. is responsible for all this". Well, let's review: We have illegals entering our country to find work and we have illegals entering our country to sell drugs. The ones coming to find work would leave if nobody employed them. The ones here to sell drugs would leave if there were nobody to buy the drugs. Yea, I guess I do think it's our fault. And why would you say I don' think a problem exists? I just outlined a complete plan to solve the problem and make all of our borders secure from not just Hispanics but from anybody who is trying to sneak into our country illegally. Oh, I have also spent a lot of time in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona and have actually...brace yourself...crossed into Mexico itself!!! In fact, I've been to a lot of different places in Mexico as well as countries in Central and South America (and neither local, state or federal government were paying for the trips). And lastly, there may, indeed be foreign persons illegally in this country waiting for an opportunity to stir up hate and dissension. They'll just have to get in line behind all the red blooded Americans already here doing the same thing.
