The Moore County Choral Society will soon begin preparations for its 37th season of bringing fine choral music to the Sandhills.
"This season promises to be both an enjoyable and memorable one," says a spokesman.
The year's first concert is Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. with a concert of holiday classics, favorites, and some less frequently heard gems as well.
"Moore Brass, a brass quintet of local musicians, and percussion will join the chorus in what will be a joyous start to the busy holiday season," says the spokesman.
This concert will be held at Sandhills Community College.
The spring concert will feature Mozart's last work, the "Requiem." Left unfinished at his untimely early death, this work has been the cornerstone of much mystery, theory and scholarship. The work, completed by Mozart's student and copyist Sussmayer, features chorus, orchestra and soloists. Other Mozart works will be included in the concert as well. The performance will be Sunday, April 29, at 4 p.m. in the Robert E. Lee Auditorium at Pinecrest High School.
The new board of directors for the 2011-12 season includes Susan Lawhon; Susan Trudell, vice president; Mary Ann Young, president; Vivian Kelly; Joe Currie, treasurer; Sondra Nelson; Don Vinson; Dale Erickson; and Karen Howell, secretary.
The Moore County Choral Society is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for interested persons to rehearse and perform fine choral music, and to increase public awareness and appreciation of the choral art. The society functions both for the education and the gratification of singer and listener alike.
"The Choral Society wishes to invite area singers to join the chorus for this, its 37th season," says the spokesman.
Rehearsals begin Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church on May Street in Southern Pines.
