Aberdeen Orders Voluntary Water Conservation

Aberdeen Town Manager Bill Zell has ordered voluntary water conservation measures due to cooperation with neighboring water systems request for conservation and potential needs.

The order is Stage 1 of the town's water conservation plan and it includes the following:

All customers are asked to reduce water usage by 5 percent in comparison to their previous billing cycle. In addition to continuing to encourage all voluntary reduction actions, the following customers are asked to consider:

  • Check plumbing, faucets and toilets for leaks, and if necessary repair
  • Store drinking water in the refrigerator to avoid trying to run it cold at the tap
  • Take showers instead of baths and limit showers to five minutes
  • Refrain from running faucets while shaving, rinsing dishes or brushing teeth
  • Install water-saving devices such as plastic bottles or commercial units in toilet tanks
  • Install water flow restrictive devices on shower heads
  • Limit the use of closes washers and dish washers and when used, operated fully loaded
  • Reduce the flushing of toilets to the minimum whenever practical
  • Limit lawn watering to only when grass show signs of withering and apply water as slow as possible
  • Limit shrubbery watering, reusing household water when possible
  • Limit car washing
  • Limit wash downs of outside areas such as sidewalks, patios, or driveways
  • Limit hours of operation of water-cooled air conditioners where possible
  • Use biodegradable disposable dishes and utensils for both residential and commercial purposes, where feasible.

What is going to happen when "Loblolly Plantation" gets here? Will they have to obey same rules? Even if they have their own water supply, does it not ultimately come from our water aquifers,the ones we're trying to conserve now? Sounds like we'll always have to watch our water then.

Nice to see Aberdeen ease into restrictions instead of sudden drastic measures other towns start with; guess not selling lots of their water helps also :)
