STARworks Center for Creative Enterprise will host the Summer Clay Camp Exhibition Friday, July 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the STARworks Gallery. Students participated in a week-long class earlier this summer where they learned basic pottery making, creating a variety of functional and sculptural pieces.

"The workshop was very successful," says instructor Hitomi Shibata. "The group was motivated and eager to learn new techniques each day."

Despite only having one week, the 14 students produced a substantial amount of work. STARworks prepared 500 pounds of clay for the workshop, almost all of which was used during the week.

"Their creativity really came out in their work," says Shibata, "They have put together a wonderful exhibit."

STARworks Ceramics is already making plans for next summer.

"We will offer more classes available to different age groups," Shibata says.

The event is free and open to the public. STARworks Gallery is located at 100 Russell Drive (rear entrance) in Star. The camp and the exhibit received support from the Montgomery County Fund, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation.
