I was just looking at the NCDOC website and it shows that Spencer was just put on probation back in May of this year. It appears to me that maybe our District Attorney's office should have sent him to prison instead of back on the streets. It seems like he had alot of other charges previously, and he is only 17 years old. Hopefully our court system will realize that probation is not the answer for everyone. It says that he is from Eagle Springs but did a robbery in Southern Pines. Makes me wonder how much contact his probation officer has had with him?

I said the same thing to my husband not five minutes ago, before I read your post. I have gotten so disgusted lately, I stopped looking them up. It is sad that a young life is ruined by this sort of thing. I don't know if prison would have changed things. I do know that people that continue down the path of crime normally associate with people in their lives that perpetuate those behaviors....

I do think the parents and the schools should share some of the blame for these kids, but that does not mean that the kids don't share some of the responsibility. How many people over the age of 17 don't know it's illegal to use a weapon to obtain someone else's property or hold that person against their will? These kids need to be held accountable for their actions. If they do have some sort of mental issue then they at least deserve treatment for that.

Children make choices. They choose friends, they choose to behave like they are taught at home or like the friends they choose. Every thing we do involves choices. Parents need to be just that. Know who your child is with, where they are. Sometimes it is tough saying no, you can't go here or there, not because the child is necessarily planning to do something wrong, but because you don't know who he/she is with, what their parents allow. It is not always because the parent hasn't taught the child right from wrong. Most of them will admit that they knew better, but chose to go with the group instead of walking away. It is a tough world we live in now. And very hard to see children throwing their lives away in order to hang with the crowd. It's not just poor kids, it is wealthy ones as well. Wealthy folk just seem to have the money to make some things go away.

I'm sure if the parents told their 17 yr old son that he was grounded, he wouldn't have gone out and robbed someone. He would have stayed home like he was told and taken the punishment.

"Dear kindly Officer, Ya gotta understand It's just our bringin' up-ke that gets out outta hand Our mothers all are junkies, Our fathers all are drunks Golly Moses, Naturally we're punks

Gee, Officer, We're very upset We never had the love that every child oughta get We ain't no delinquents, We're misunderstood

  • Deep down inside us there is good
  • There is good

There is good, there is good, There is untapped good Like inside the worst of us is good

  • That's a touchin' good story!

Dr.: Yes! Officer he shouldn't be here This boy don't need a couch He needs a useful career Society's played him a terrible trick - And sociologically he's sick

  • l am sick Like we're sociologically sick

Dr: In my opinion, this child does not need to have his head shrunk at all. Juvenile delinquency is purely a social disease.

Hey, l got a social disease!

Take him to a social worker.

Dear kindly social worker They tell me get a job Like be a soda-jerker Which means like be a slob lt's not l'm antisocial l'm only anti-work Gloryosky, That's why l'm a jerk

Dr. Officer you've done it again This boy don't need a job He needs a year in the pen lt ain't just a question of misunderstood

We're no good, we're no good We're no earthly good Like the best of us, is no damn good

  • The trouble is he's lazy
  • The trouble is he drinks

  • The trouble is he stinks
  • The trouble is he's growing
  • The trouble is he's grown
