The Pine Forest development rezoning issue is back on the agenda for the Tuesday meeting of the Moore County Board of Commissioners, but not for a decision.

Instead, the board will be asked to reopen the public hearing at the Feb. 15 meeting, when new information is likely to be available for scrutiny.

In a memorandum to the commissioners, Planning Director Joey Raczkowski said that a review of testimony heard at the Jan. 18 hearing shows that questions remain to be addressed before the planning staff can complete the findings of fact and make a recommendation.

The Tuesday meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the historic courthouse in Carthage.

CONTRACTS — Elsewhere, the agenda contains another Pine Forest item, consideration of agreements on water system development and water capacity and sewer and reclaimed waterline construction.

This item was tabled at the Jan. 18 meeting, pending a decision on the controversial rezoning issue.

Developers have announced plans for a residential-resort-small business community on almost 1,800 acres fronting on N.C. 211 southeast of West End.

If developed as planned, Pine Forest would provide a private residential community with an 18-hole golf course, a resort community with another 18-hole golf course and a nine-hole course, a hotel and resort amenities, plus a small shopping center. It would offer no more than 890 residential units, including hotel rooms.

ABC — Also on the agenda is a requested resolution supporting North Carolina’s current Alcohol Beverage Control system.

This item was also tabled at the Jan. 18 meeting.

The meeting will begin with a presentation by public works director Dennis Brobst on options pertaining to the North West Moore Water District. Residents of the proposed district approved a $16 million bond issue in a 2004 referendum. The district has yet to be developed, and the bonding authority expires in May.

The board will also be asked to adopt a resolution supporting state aid to airports through block grant funds requested by the county airport authority.

Two public hearings will be held, one on a proposed change in the county zoning map, the other on proposed text amendments for the zoning ordinance. The board will be asked to call a public hearing on other text amendments to be held during the Feb. 15 meeting.

COBLE — Congressman Howard Coble returned to the 6th District for a long weekend. He attended a Greensboro Firefighters Club dinner Thursday night.

Coble spoke to a sixth-grade social studies class at South Guilford Middle School, presented Army ROTC awards at Grimsley High School and attended a surprise 60th birthday party for Sheriff B.J. Barnes Friday.
