A house in the Roseland area of the county was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.

The fire was called in at about 1:45 p.m., and when firefighters arrived the 2076 Rose Ridge Road, near the Richmond County line, the house was engulfed by fire.

There was heavy smoke and flames when firefighters arrived, according to Pinebluff Fire Chief John McKiver. The house appeared to be a total loss, he said.

The fire is under investigation by the Moore County Fire Marshall's office. The home was owned by David W. Fish.

First responders included the Pinebluff, Aberdeen, West End, Crestline, Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Derby fire departments. McKiver said there was between 25 and 30 firefighters on site.

Also responding were Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff's Office and the county fire marshall.
