Civil War Quiz Bowl Set for Thursday

The N.C. Civil War Sesquicentennial will kick off with the Museum of the Cape Fear's 10th Annual Civil War Quiz Bowl Thursday, Jan. 27. This is a free event.

Contestants will test their knowledge of trivia, tactics and history as host Jim Greathouse assails them with questions covering all aspects of the War Between the States.

"This year, we will be hosting the Civil War Quiz Bowl in the Pate Room of the Cumberland County Public Library, Headquarters branch," says a spokesman. "This will provide us with a stage area for the contestants and greater seating capacity for spectators. Categories will range from the great names and famous battles, to obscure personalities and fascinating factoids about America's defining conflict."

The competition is open to contestants of all ages, and prizes will be awarded for both the adult and student (16 and under) winners.

"The questions are the same regardless of the age of the contestants, and our younger participants will give their elders a run for their money," says the spokesman. "Be sure and sign up early. Participation is limited to 20, and the list fills up fast."

There will be plenty of room for friends, family and spectators It will begin at 7 p.m., in the Pate Room of the Cumberland County Public Library at 300 Maiden Lane, in historic downtown Fayetteville.
