HAYES - Former Congressman Robin Hayes will succeed Tom Fetzer as chairman of the state Republican Party.

Hayes was chosen at a Saturday meeting of the party's Executive Commit-tee in Raleigh.

Hayes served five terms as the U.S. representative for the 8th District, which in years past included Moore County. He was defeated in 2008 by Democrat Larry Kissell of Montgomery County.
