Jets Handle Viking Boys in Basketball

Union Pines’ boys fell 82-57 to the Jets in Saturday non-conference basketball action in Siler City.
Paced by a 29-point performance from James Millikan, Jordan-Matthews (12-2) seized early command of the contest and never looked back.
The Jets led 23-13 after one period and had stretched their lead to 44-28 at the half. Through three quarter of action Jordan-Matthews was up 62-43.
Millikan had seven rebounds, six assists and four steals on the night for the Jets, while backcourt mate Braxton Cotten finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.
Braxton Ross scored nine points to lead the way for Union Pines in the first half of the tilt. The 6-4 sophomore was held scoreless in the final two frames, however, but did finish with eight rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Lashun Brower came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points in the tilt for the Vikes, and had four rebounds and five assists.
With the loss the Viking boys are now 4-12 on the season. Both Union Pines boys and girls hit the hardwood again Friday at Bob Ward Gymnasium against Overhills in a Cape Fear Valley Confernece doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
