Snow, Ice Force Postponement of Games

Old Man Winter is having his way with local high school sporting events, forcing postponements and cancellations this week.
The school system called off all public school sporting events scheduled for last Friday, and more postponements followed Monday and Tuesday as schools were closed because of the snow and ice storm that glazed the county.
Tuesday's school cancellation forced the postponement of Pinecrest’s home basketball games against Scotland County.
The Patriots' hoops teams also have to make up games against Lumberton that were postponed Friday. If school is cancelled Wednesday, it would affect the home wrestling dual meet with Scotland County.
No decisions about make-up dates of the Scotland and Lumberton games had been made as of Tuesday morning, according to athletic director Ernie Purnsley.
North Moore athletic director Bob Collins said Monday that the school has a tentative make-up schedule in place — though he said it’s “wait and see” at this point.
Last Friday's basketball games against South Stanly will be made up on Jan. 20. Monday's non-conference hoops contests against The O'Neal School have been cancelled.
The basketball teams were scheduled to travel to North Rowan Tuesday, but those games have been pushed back to Jan. 24.
Varsity road games at Albemarle High School, which were postponed twice due to inclement weather last month, have been rescheduled for Jan. 31. The jayvee games will not be played.
Wednesday's wrestling dual meet at Chatham Central has been postponed until Thursday. Collins said Friday’s home basketball games against Albemarle are still a go, as of Monday afternoon.
Over at Union Pines, Wednesday’s home conference wrestling dual meet with Westover, has been cancelled and no official make-up date has been set as of yet.
As of Monday, the Viking indoor track team's Wednesday meet against league foe Westover, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, was still “officially on” as planned, depending on whether or not school is in session Wednesday.
Due to exams, the Union Pines basketball teams were not scheduled to be back in action until Friday, when the Vikes host Douglas Byrd in a Cape Fear Valley Conference doubleheader.
They are scheduled travel to Jordan Matthews Saturday.
