The Sunrise Theater Presents "FELA!" Thursday, Jan. 13, from 2 to 4:45 p.m.
Tickets (reserved seating) are $20. A special promotion allows theater goers to buy two tickets and get two free.
"FELA!", the award-winning Broadway and London production is broadcast live to cinemas worldwide, continuing the second season of National Theatre Live.
"FELA!" is a provocative and wholly unique hybrid of dance, theater and music, exploring the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. It was filmed live at the National's Olivier Theatre.
Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), "FELA!" reveals Kuti's controversial life as an artist and political activist. Featuring many of Fela Kuti's most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones' visionary staging, this original new creation has come via Broadway to the National Theatre. In New York, it was the winner of three 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Choreography.
Sahr Ngaujah (who won an Obie Award for his performance as Fela Kuti) leads the new cast for the London production, which also includes Paulette Ivory and Melanie Marshall.
National Theatre Live performances are filmed live in high definition and broadcast via satellite to more than 300 cinemas around the world, live in Europe and some U.S. cities, and time-delayed in countries further afield. There are more than 75 venues in the UK, alongside venues in the U.S., Canada, Australia, South Africa, Scandinavia and Europe.
"FELA!" runs 3 hours, including pre-show and interval.
Future productions from National Theatre Live include Donmar Warehouse's "King Lear" on Feb. 3; Danny Boyle's new production of "Frankenstein" on March 17; and Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" on June 30.
National Theatre Live is presented in partnership with Aviva.
