Man Dies in High Falls Wreck

One person was killed and two others injured after a pickup truck collided with a Moore County school bus near Highfalls Elementary School Thursday afternoon.

Danny Ray Greene, 31, of Star was killed Thursday when a school bus collided with a pickup truck he was riding in. His brother, Donald Lee Greene, 39, also of Star was driving the truck. He was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospitals Chapel Hill.

The wreck happened at approximately 3:45 p.m. as the bus was returning to the school after completing its afternoon route. No children were on the bus.

According to the state highway patrol, David Wayne Shelton, 39, of Robbins, was driving the bus north on N.C.  22 when he made a left hand turn attempting to enter the parking lot at Highfalls Elementary School and then collided with the pickup truck, which was southbound on N.C. 22.

Shelton was transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital.

He is a custodian at Highfalls Elementary and a bus driver with several years experience, according to a statement released by Moore County Schools.

The state highway patrol is still investigating the incident.

First responders and firefighters from High Falls, Robbins and Moore County also responded.
