I Move We Change It

I keep coming back to Steve Bouser’s column “America Needs a New National Anthem.”
Anything would seem to be better than “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which is so difficult that we hire someone to sing it for us — not to lead it, but to sing it for us. And then, as at this year’s Super Bowl, the singer tends to butcher it by adding personal interpretations and/or forgetting some of the words.
Let’s start a national movement to change our national anthem. I think that your suggestion of “America the Beautiful” is what we should promote across the nation.
Good idea, but how do we promote “America the Beautiful” across our nation?
Well, most of us here come from another part of the country. For a start, each one of us who agrees with this notion should write or e-mail our friends across the country and ask them to write to the editor of their newspaper and suggest this change. Your idea could sweep the country in a matter of weeks.
I don’t do Facebook, nor do I “Twitter” and “tweet,” but those who do could join the movement.
Then, with enough noise being made, certainly some U.S. congressman will jump on the bandwagon, so to speak, and propose an official change.
