Senior Night in Robbins was extra special for the North Moore girls' basketball team Friday.

The Lady Mustangs blitzed North Rowan 80-50 to sew up the program's first regular season conference championship since 1996. The team finished the regular season with an 18-5 overall record and a 14-2 mark in the 1A Yadkin Valley Conference.

Shakorya Brower led North Moore with 23 points, while Katelyn Sheffield had 19. Jalisa Davis had 12 and Tashonna Farmer had nine.

Sheffield, Farmer and Jamie Garner — the team's three seniors — were honored after the game as part of the Senior Night celebration.

The Lady Mustangs will have the weekend to celebrate their championship before getting back to business Monday. As the top seed in the YVC tournament, they'll host West Montgomery at 7 p.m. in the first round.

The semifinals and finals will be held at South Davidson later in the week.

In the nightcap, the North Moore boys fell 65-38 to the Cavaliers. Xavier Scotton led the home team with 16 points.

After falling behind by 15 at the half, North Moore shot out of the gate with an 8-0 run to start the third quarter and cut North Rowan's lead to seven, but the Cavs outscored them 18-6 to end the frame and kill any chance at a comeback.

Seven seniors were honored from the basketball team — Scotton, Corbin Brock, Tyler Wallace, Sterling Barrett, Jonathan Bym, T.J. Kennedy and Trevor Farquharson.

The Mustangs will be either the fourth or fifth seed in the YVC tournament that begins Tuesday and will play South Davidson regardless, according to coach Grant Smith. He said he would know some time Saturday whether they would host the Wildcats or travel to Denton.

The Mustangs finished the regular season at 13-9 (10-6 YVC).

Sammy McNeill who proved he was a winning coach in softball has proven he can do it in basketball as well. One of the best coaches in NCHSAA without a doubt. Congratulations to NM.
