Damion Pride sank both ends of a 1-and -1 opportunity with 10.7 seconds remaining Tuesday evening to provide Pinecrest’s final points in a 61-60 victory over Richmond Senior.
The Patriots survived a potential game-winning attempt by the Raiders as time expired. They will take a 19-4 overall and 8-1 record in the Southeastern Conference into Friday’s showdown at Hoke County. The winner of the final regular season game for both teams will be the conference champion.
Senior Marshall Smith was the leading scorer for the Patriots on Senior Night with 18 points. Another senior, Faronte’ Drakeford, finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Richmond Senior continued its mastery over the Pinecrest girls, defeating them for the third time this season, 50-40, in Tuesday’s opening game. The Patriots take a 15-6 overall and 5-4 league record into Friday’s game at Hoke County. The conference champion Raiders improved to 18-2 and 9-0.
Senior Shaniqua Collins scored a career high 16 points for the Patriots who trailed by only one point at halftime before being outscored 16 to 7 in the third quarter.
