A Tale of Two Dogs

Place: Morganton Road

Genre: Drama

Scene: Two small dogs darting back and forth over four lanes of heavy traffic

Cast of Characters: A dozen (more or less) citizens in vehicles.

Plot: I stopped and tried to coax the two darting dogs out of the street. Meanwhile, traffic in two lanes was stopped, waiting for me to capture the dogs. After a few minutes the drivers could see I was not going to be successful, so they resumed driving. Cars were veering to avoid hitting the dogs. I was distraught thinking that I would witness a dog (or two) getting killed.

Along came a man, in a van with the words “Advanced Mechanical Systems,” who stopped in the right lane of traffic and helped call the dogs. They wouldn’t come. Next, a woman in a Moore County vehicle pulled up behind the van. While she called Animal Control, the dogs disappeared into the woods. She said she would circle back and try to determine where they had gone. We left the scene.

How the story ended, I don’t know. But thank you to the cast of characters who share a reverence for life.
