Pinecrest Wrestlers Take Six Firsts, five Seconds at Conference Championship

Pinecrest wrestlers grabbed first or second place in 11 of the 12 weight classes they were entered in at Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Championships held at James Moore Gym.
Zac Lupien (103 pounds), Garrett Bateman (135), Dustin Roemer (145) and Nathan Frederique (160) won conference titles for the second time. Jonah Caliri (140) and Luke Fetla (215) grabbed their first titles.
Patriot runners-up were Cody Fitzgerald (119), Dallas Roemer (130), Rider Excell (152), Ryan McGuire (171) and Hawk George (189).
Coach Travis Flinchum’s squad posted the best team score by a wide margin. The Patriot point total of 245.5 was followed by Scotland County, 145.5, Hoke County, 133, Lumberton, 93.5, Richmond Senior, 77 and Purnell Swett, 56.
Next for the repeat winners of the conference regular season and tournament championships is the first round of the state dual team championships scheduled to begin on Tuesday at a site still to be announced.
