The Union Pines wrestling team clinched the regular season Cape Fear Valley Conference title Monday with a 55-14 win over Southern Lee in a league dual meet.
It marks the Vikings’ fourth CFVC regular season championship in the last six years. Union Pines (9-0) wraps up its regular season league campaign tonight at 7 p.m., with a conference dual meet versus Douglas Byrd at Bob Ward Gymnasium in Cameron.
While head coach Matt Ragsdale is pleased his team has already clinched the conference crown, he wanted to emphasize to Union Pines’ fans and supporters that tonight’s match is still an important one.
“It will be a night to recognize our seniors for their dedication to the Union Pines wrestling program,” said Ragsdale. “It will also be Military Appreciation Night with all members of the armed forces in uniform receiving free admission to the event.”
The senior night festivities are set to start at approximately 6:45.p.m. tonight just prior to the dual meet. Union Pines is currently the top-rated team in retrorankings.com’s 3A tournament rankings, and occupy the third spot in the most recent 3A coaches dual team poll.
