First Bank has donated $5,000 to sponsor 10 World War II veterans for the 2011 Flight of Honor, hosted by Triangle Flight of Honor.

Triangle Flight of Honor is a nonprofit organization that annually honors veterans with free trips to the World War II monument in Washington.

First Bank is inviting eligible World War II veterans to register to win one of the 10 spots on this year's Flight of Honor at any of its Moore County locations.

Participants can register and complete an application for a chance to win a flight through Friday.

Winning names will be drawn at 4 p.m. Friday at the First Bank Southern Pines branch at 205 S.E. Broad St. The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

"We are pleased to offer this contest drawing for the veterans in our community," said Roger Gentry, First Bank senior vice president. "They offered the ultimate service for our country, and supporting Triangle Flight of Honor is a great way to show our appreciation."

Sunny Johnson, director of Triangle Flight of Honor, said, "By supporting the Triangle Flight of Honor, First Bank will become a part of changing lives - giving veterans the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be honored for their courage, valor and sacrifice. Through this donation, First Bank will be giving these veterns' families a memory that will be passed down for years."
