Flyers Finish Year Strong

The Sandhills Flyers take a 14-1 record into next year after defeating Catawba Valley CC 86-76 in Hickory Tuesday evening.
Former Pinecrest star Daquain Towns was 9-for-14 from the field and scored 19 points to lead the tied for No. 2 Flyers in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll. The 6-foot guard also tied Dre Huntley with a team-high five assists.
Another former Pinecrest player, Tramaine Pride, scored four points to go with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Flyers sank almost half of their shots from the field and led by as many as 22 points at 67-45. The Buccaneers were successful on just 37 percent of the their field goal attempts, including a 2-for-16 performance from beyond the arc.
Other double-figure scorers for the winners were Raheem Jolliffe with 11 points, and Louis Craft and Markell Lotharp with 10 apiece.
Coach Mike Apple’s squad returns to action with a game at Queen City Prep in Charlotte on Jan. 4.
