Kwanzaa Celebration Set in Fayetteville

Umoja Group Inc. is a Fayetteville-based nonprofit organization with a mission that initiates and supports positive history, art and culture of Africans and African-Americans, and shares this rich heritage with others to enhance respect, cooperation and unity.

This year's Kwanzaa celebration will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at 1520 Slater Ave., Fayetteville.

Admission is free, but participants are asked to bring a covered dish. "Donations will be appreciated," says a spokesman.

Umoja Group's annual events for the past 20 years have been Kwanzaa, Malcolm X Forum and the African-American Cultural, Family and Community Festival, known as the UMOJA Festival.

UMOJA has presented the Dr. Benjamin Oguah monetary award to an E.E. Smith High School senior or graduating student in the E.E. Smith attendance area.

Umoja Group Inc. is committed to developing programs and events that educate, motivate and stimulate community people's interest in history, culture and the arts.
