Carthage Man Charged with Fraud

On Dec. 16, Moore County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Jeffrey Lane Smith, 45, of Carthage, and charged him with obtaining property by false pretense. The arrest is in connection with fraud in West End that was reported by Robert Shoemake on Dec. 5.
Smith was given a written promise to appear in Moore County District Court on January 5, 2011.
