Pretty scary for an old person and it was more than 15 minutes...I was there at 3:30 to pick up child for dr. appointment. No one in the office. Like the calm before a storm. I was told to return to my vehicle immediately by an officer. They lifted the lockdown right at 4:00pm. From what I observed, thanks to the staff, the children outside for phys. ed classes were secured quickly. Much appreciated.

Glad everyone is OK. I was there to pick up my daughter and was shocked to see all of the police cars. What were these two individuals thinking going on to a school campus with ANY type of weapon? Did they have a death wish?

The message from the school never mentioned weapons of any kind!! We didn't recieve the message until 4:30. I am thankful this ended in a safe manner.

Not to make any inferences here, but one can't help but to wonder how many street lights, store windows, or other property was affected by a BB gun? Those lights on roadways and side roads using Progress Energy lighting are quite expensive I understand. Maybe they were just out shooting wildlife from the comfort of their car ....

Geez Louise!! What has our great country come to when we refer to stinkin' bb guns as weapons. Amazing!

My son was outside for PE and he said the coaches got them inside quickly. Appreciate them looking after the kids.

Yes, they were ONLY BB guns...but until they were sure, they had to take the actions they did and lockdown the school. You would be the same one complaining if they assumed they were only BB guns and did nothing!!!! Give the school and law enforcement credit for protecting the students and staff at the school first. I know for a fact I would not be able to tell the difference between a BB gun and a rifle/shotgun from a distance....always err on the side of caution. Thanks to all involved for keeping everyone safe.....at least it wasn't an umbrella!

cnmt...I'm not complaining about the response...very proper response! What I'm complaining about is that we now call bb guns "weapons." When I was a kid at Southern Pines we had knives in our pockets all the time. They were useful tools. We even carried a rifle or shotguns to school in our vehicles when it was time to go hunting after school. Of course that was in the time before drugs and gangs and the ridiculous rule of zero tolerance. A rule that takes common sense out of the equation. There again, when I was a kid a little smackdown probably went a long ways to curbing violence than now when a kid can't even smartmouth without running afoul of the zero tolerance rules. Therefore bottling up aggression until an explosive response.

skylinefirepest: I'm sure you're correct. We have given our youth so little space that I'm sure that this was just built up aggression. The poor babies were only pointing BB guns at people and we all know that a BB gun can't do any harm, right? BB guns are not "weapons" the same as a pocket knife is not a weapon.....until you hold it to somebodys throat. Your 2nd amendment fixation along with your opposition to methods developed to protect EVERYBODYS peace of mind contribute to these types of incidents. When you were a kid, gas was less than a dollar a gallon. Those days are gone. Please join the 21st century and see what a gun culture has done for America.

According to the journal of Pediatrics, an air powered gun is considered to be dangerous. Deaths have resulted from a metal ball fired from an air rifle. Here is a link to support those claims:

I have a son at Pinecrest, and I was not worried. The teachers and staff at Pinecrest are good at what they do, and so are Moore County's Peace officers.

These two are lucky they are still sucking air!! You find them with guns, BB or not, tell them to drop them and freeze, and if they do not, you drop them!! Good work LE's.
And yes, God permitting, we will always be a country of gun toting citizen's!!
