Longleaf Garden Club presented demonstrations of floral designs for the holidays on Thursday, Oct. 13, at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst.

Four members of the club are National Council Master Judges for flower shows, as well as master designers themselves. Lee Sherman, Milli Johnson, Cookie Kremer and Bonnie Mirmak explained to an audience of approximately 100 members and guests how to use materials found in their own yards to make the stunning arrangements they displayed for autumn, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Discussions included elements of good design, color, materials and mechanics, and containers.

Following the demonstrations, home-baked cookies, cakes and tarts were served with apple cider. Many from the audience discussed questions and ideas with the individual designers/judges. Five guests left with beautiful fresh arrangements that were raffled off. The event was part of the Longleaf Federated Garden Club's 35th anniversary celebration, and will help fund such interests as the Sandhills Community College Horticultural Society, Tomorrow's Legacy Gardens and hospice plantings.
