O'Neal Boys, Girls Lose to Coastal

The O’Neal boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams suffered losses to visiting Coastal Christian Friday.
In the boys’ game, Coastal Christian used hot shooting to build a 35-20 halftime lead and held off the Falcons to post the 62-44 win. Coastal was paced by 6-foot-6 junior Nick Chase with 13 points and Chris Sutton added 12.
Jack Johnston led O’Neal, now 2-4 overall, with 11 points, while J.R. Moore and Logan Butler had nine each. Jacob Talbert added eight points.
In the girls’ game, Coastal Carolina claimed a 56-24 win.
The second and third quarters proved to be too much for the Falcons, as Coastal outscored them 39-15 during those periods.
Leading the way for O’Neal was Maeve Bartiss with six, followed by Mary Dixon with five. Scotti McGowan and Taylor Shelton chipped in with three points each. The high scorer for Coastal was Lauren Duncan with 18.
O’Neal dropped to 0-6, while Coastal improved to 3-5.
Both teams return to action Tuesday in Durham against Carolina Friends.
