Flyers Run Win Streak to 11

The Sandhills Community College basketball team breezed to a 97-60 victory over the Methodist Lions in Fayetteville Wednesday evening.
The Flyers, now 11-0, moved up a place to No. 4 in this week’s NJCAA Division III rankings. They are scheduled to entertain Rockingham CC at the O’Neal School gym on Saturday. Originally scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., the game time has been changed to 3 p.m. In an earlier meeting this season, the Flyers edged Rockingham 81-76.
Five Flyers scored in double figures against Methodist, led by Raheem Jolliffe and Markell Lotharp with 14 points each. Daquain Towns added 13 and T.J. Jones poured in 11. Former Pinecrest player Tramaine Pride, who played a Charlotte for a year, was five for six from the field, scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in his Flyer debut.
Louis Craft contributed 13 rebounds, five blocked shots and six points to the Flyer cause. Dre Huntley chipped in with eight points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals. Mike Apple’s squad made 53.9 percent of its shots from the field and out-rebounded its opponent 58 to 30.
In other schedule changes, a strong Queen City Prep team will visit the Flyers next Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Flyers will return the favor on Jan. 4. These games replace two against Laurinburg Prep that have been canceled.
