Well, folks, the 13-week ride through The Pilot football contest has drawn to a close.
And a lot of people did quite well this week, but I’m sure what everyone wants to know is who won the overall contest.
First, let’s get to the winners of the final week of the contest. The last winner of 2011 is none other than ... wait a minute ... OK, it’s Glenn Camp of Southern Pines. He went 15-1 for the week with his only miss being to pick Chicago to beat Kansas City.
But that doesn’t matter because the $50 first-place check goes to the Southern Pines resident.
There were 12 people that went 14-2 for the week, so to the tiebreaker we did go. The tiebreaker game was Detroit at New Orleans, a game that ended with a score of 31-17, which means the tiebreaker number was 48.
It just so happens that there were two people that hit that number right on the nose — Sandra Blake of Southern Pines and Johnny Ward of Southern Pines. That meant the second tiebreaker was used to decided the final two spots. That tiebreaker is pulling names out of a hat.
After doing so (picking names out of a hat), the second-place check for $30 went to Blake, while Ward is the winner of the $20 third-place check.
Now, let’s turn to the overall winner, the person that will get $200 for displaying consistency over the season.
This came down to the wire, in fact, it ended up that three people were tied for the top spot with 150-58 overall marks.
“L” Barbara Johnson of Vass and Michael Brown of Aberdeen were tied for the top spot last week, along with Brad Robbins, all three with 137-55 marks. Both Johnson and Brown went 13-3 this week to end up at 150-58. Robbins went 10-6 this week and slid down the standings.
Then there is Seth Norris of Aberdeen, who had been all around the top spot all season long. He entered the final week trailing by one, with a 136-54 mark. But the Aberdeen man went 14-2 this week, good enough to earn him a spot on top
So, to the tiebreaker we did go, once again pulling a name out of in a hat. And the winner is — Seth Norris. He’ll be getting a check in the mail for $200 and my congratulations. Hey, it’s been fun folks and until next year, I bid you adieu.
