The Pinecrest junior varsity football team dropped to 0-2 after a 12-0 loss to visiting Overhills Wednesday evening.
The Patriots got off to a horrible start against the team from the Cape Fear Valley Conference and could never quite turn things around. They were victimized by an onside kick to start the game that led to a 17-yard touchdown pass thrown by Jaguar quarterback Tylo Rodgers. It was 6-0 after the conversion attempt failed, but the visitors then recovered a Patriot fumble on the ensuing kickoff. The first series run by the Patriot offense ended in the interception of a pass thrown by Tristan Helms. They turned the ball over four times in all.
In a game dominated by the defenses, the only long drive authored by either side was one of 56 yards by the Jags that ended with a three-yard touchdown run by Quincey Ridley that made it 12-0 with 9:41 remaining in the game.
The Patriots travel to Cox Mills next Thursday where the teams are scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
