Moore County Bounced From Dixie Youth AAA World Series

The Moore County squad was bounced from the Dixie Youth AAA World Series with a loss to Mississippi Monday.

The local nine held tough in the contest, entering the sixth inning trailing just 2-1. But Mississippi hung a three-spot on the host team in the top of the inning in taking the win.

The loss, combined with another one in opening round play, put Moore County out of the double-elimination event being held at Hillcrest Park.

The tournament features 24 Dixie state championship teams from 11 states and two local teams. There are two divisions in the event — Majors (12-and-under) and AAA (10-and-under) Twelve teams compete in each division of the tournament.

In Majors' competition results from Monday included Arkansas defeating Texas, 5-1, South Carolina defeating Florida, 6-5, Georgia stopped Mississippi 16-9, and North Carolina defeated Arkansas, 9-2.

In AAA play, Alabama defeated Virginia, 4-3, South Carolina defeated Georgia, 15-7, North Carolina topped Arkansas, 13-2, Florida stopped Louisiana, 13-1, and Tennessee defeated Texas, 10-8.

A full slate of games are scheduled for Hillcrest Park today, with the action at the four-field complex starting at 3 p.m.
